A psychodiagnostic assessment is conducted with individuals to uncover, identify, explain and illuminate the various psycho dynamics of an individual. The assessment is an essential part of the treatment process for the individual as the assessment facilitates and expedites the psychotherapeutic process.
The following assessment instruments comprise what is considered to be the most reliable and valid psychodiagnostic battery for the evaluation of individuals:
1. WECHSLER INTELLIGENCE SCALE FOR CHILDREN or WECHSLER ADULT INTELLIGENCE SCALE.
- This is the most widely used test to determine intellectual functioning. This test is comprised of two basic categories, verbal and perceptual-motor functioning. It is also used to assess thought processes, ego functioning and the possibility of organic dysfunction.
2. RORSCHACH TEST
- This is a projective personality instrument based on the individual's associations to ten inkblots, yielding personality conflicts, ego function and structure, defensive structure, thought processes and affective integration.
3. HUMAN FIGURE DRAWINGS
- This is a projective test requiring the individual to draw same gender and opposite gender drawings on a blank sheet of paper. This test is used to assess personality conflicts, self-image, ego functions and perceptual-motor coordination.
4. BENDER VISUAL-MOTOR GESTALT TEST
- This test requires the individual's reproduction of nine geometric figures. This test yields an indication of organic brain dysfunction, personality conflicts, and ego function and structure.
5. SENTENCE COMPLETION TEST
- This personality test asks the individual to complete a pre-chosen list of partially completed sentences. These sentence stems are formulated to elicit responses relevant to the individual's personality.
6. PSYCHOLOGICAL INTERVIEW
- This is directed conversation with the individual, designed to elicit certain predetermined kinds of information to aid in guidance, diagnosis and treatment.
